terra firma gardens

  • We are at the very final stages of the Mearnskirk project where we have been since December the 1st! The final day actually, other than an industrial pressure washing of the driveway on Monday. I will be posting pictures of the whole project on the site in the next few weeks.

Marcus Michael and David will be moving onto a small West End project on Monday, which is a complete makeover of a lovely little space in Fergus Drive. It will be getting a new sandstone patio, a circular lawn edged with ganite setts, and a curved natural sandstone raised bed as well as a new trellis fence. Lots of curves and character.

Mick and Billy are well underway with a traditional style project in the new Cala estate at Cathkin. Here we are turning the sloped lawn into a rock garden with steps and a curved path through it, a pond with an antique Indian waterspout, a summerhouse and a patio with lots of lush planting. This garden will ooze timeless charm when we are finished.

We have several designs underway - Im putting the finishing touches to a traditional garden in the Formakin Estate in Bishopton and a large contemporary garden in Moor Road in Strathblane, and then contemporary gardens in Mearnskirk and Waterfoot, a garden to terrace in Clarkston, and a Lourdes Grotto to do for a church. Its all go!

John, Marcus and the rest of the team continue to make good progress at our Mearnskirk project and are now working their way round to the fron of the site and constructing the large rockery feature, new parking spaces and the front lawn. Mick is onto the final set of boulder edged steps. Im going there with Terry tomorrow to discuss the planting of the rockery. I met the tree house company last week and there will be a tree house a raised deck and two 'canopy walkways' in the woodland area. We will be installing the trampoline at ground level nearby. Its going to be fantastic.

Since I last wrote we have since been given another design project in Giffnock, just round the corner from where I was brought up. I know the soils in the area very well and there is the inevitable drainage issue found on heavy clay soils. This client has had a new extension built and needs the garden redesigned to accomodate it.

Today Ive been putting the final touches to the West End project, which is looking superb, its a steep yet small site, and there will be an Iroko hardwood deck and Sawn Yorkstone paving, stainless steel eyelid lighting on the steps, a built in seat in the sunniest corner and contemporary fencing all round. I will be taking the drawing and specification to the client tomorrow night. This afternoon I have a new project to view in Whitecraigs. Its all go!
